The Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible (3rd century BCE) was the first grand translation project and played the key role in the evolution of European civilization.

Millennium later, large-scale projects of scholarly translation from the Greek to Arabic languages, and later from Arabic to Hebrew and Latin turned out to be a critical driving force of both Muslim and European Renaissance.

In the XXth century, language and translation became the major focus of academic and philosophical inquiry - from Walter Benjamin and Jacques Derrida to computer linguistics.

Eshkolot's Festival of Jewish Texts and Ideas focuses on an in-depth study of classical Bible translations, as well as medieval treatises and contemporary essays on the philosophy of translation.

With classes led by Russian and Israeli scholars of repute, carefully selected students and young professionals choose one of three tracks enabling an study and discussion. Readings are accompanied by plenary lectures and evening edutainment programs, all with a strong focus on community building and follow-up activities.
